April 22, 7pm: Year in Ink Volume 7 Release Party. Readings from the latest anthology. A celebration of San Diego writers. Don’t miss out. Cygnet Theatre in Old Town. $5 suggested donation or bring a bottle of wine. It is sure to be an exciting evening! (Doors Open 6:30pm)
San Diego Writers Ink shines a spotlight on local authors with the release of the seventh volume of A Year in Ink, an annual anthology of the creative work of San Diego County writers in both prose and poetry.
The publication represents a sampling of the tangible results of our community’s diligent scribblers, which the editors have chosen from blind submissions. This means that in addition to some familiar names in local San Diego writing, there are also first time publications. Every year San Diego Writers, Ink is pleased to be the first place for some writers to have their work discovered; many of these people go on to become published in many other places.
The Release Party will include authors reading from many of the published pieces as well as time to mingle with the literary crowd and enjoy refreshments. Copies of the 2014 Anthology will be available for purchase at the event. A Year in Ink has, in previous years, been nominated or won the San Diego Book Awards for best anthology and SDWI think this new book continues its high quality selection of local prose and poetry.
Thanks to a partnership with two SDSU graphic design classes, posters based on poems in this year’s anthology were selected for display in the lobby of the theatre. “We are very excited by this collaboration with Professors Beth Weeks and Susan Merritt. Their students really did an amazing job in designing the posters, making it difficult to chose which ones would be displayed at the event. We think this work is a great way to give the students experience and the poets love it because they see how readers interact with their words and visualize the poems in different ways.”
The Anthology Release Event will be a celebration of the vibrant arts and writing community of which San Diego has every reason to be proud.
