Writing is a physical activity that uses the whole body, mind, and spirit. It requires stamina and discipline as well as the ability to relax and be quiet. Experience how yoga eases you deeper into your body and into your writing. Ground and enlighten your writing through a gentle yoga flow with guided breathing and meditation exercises.
During this morning class, we will incorporate the principles and postures of Vinyasa-style yoga, linking breath to movement, stretching our bodies and mind to generate new ideas and reinvigorate existing ones. Whether you are beginning a new work or feeling blocked, join us to light your creative fire and liberate your authentic voice and deepest truths.
After the yoga session, SDWI will be open until noon so that participants may write in the space for free.
Note: A yoga mat is needed for this course, but no prior yoga experience. Please wear comfortable clothes to class that you can do gentle movements in. Bring writing materials if you would like to stick around to write.
Maelyn Gándola is a yoga instructor, playwright, and actress. Maelyn first began practicing yoga a decade ago as an author and actor searching for authenticity on page and the stage. The grounding, spiritual growth, and physical empowerment she discovered as she returned each day to her mat encouraged her to not only continue her personal practice but eventually become a teacher as well. Maelyn firmly believes yoga heals, by journeying within we each have the capacity to awaken and catalyze an uncompromising journey of play and expansion.
As an instructor, Maelyn is dedicated to her students’ growth and well-being. Maintaining a strong focus on core integration and alignment, she seeks to create a safe, centered, and joyful atmosphere leaving her students with calm minds, open hearts, and inspired spirits. She is also available for private sessions and seminars.
