Young Adult: Writing Books for (and about) Teens

Twilight, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Judy Blume’s Forever; what do all of these classic, bestselling books have in common? They are all books written for, and about, young adults.

In this one-day workshop, author Laura Preble (Queen Geek Social Club, Out) will guide you through a series of writing exercises and discussions designed to help you map out or flesh out your young adult novel idea. Topics will include character development, the use of slang and technology, and the state of the current YA publishing market.

 

Laura Preble is the award-winning author of the young adult series, Queen Geek Social Club (Penguin/Berkley Jam), which includes the novels Queen Geeks in Love and Prom Queen Geeks, and her new novel, Out, will be released in 2013She has also won a Kurt Vonnegut Fiction Prize, and has been published in North American Review, Hysteria, and NEA Today.
