2017-04/23 Bad to the Bone: A Crash Course in Pulp Prose with Matt Phillips
This three-hour course will introduce genre writers to pulp prose basics. Want to craft sentences as sharp as razor blades? Whip-smack clever quips like pistol fire? Paint the page red with blood and romance? This is the class for you. Students will examine the work of pulp prose stylists and begin crafting their own pulpy scenes of dilemma and discontent. Bring writing materials for the workshop portion of class; samples of pulp prose will be provided by the instructor.
Matt Phillips lives in Normal Heights. His books are Three Kinds of Fool, Bad Luck City, Redbone, and the forthcoming Accidental Outlaws On Purpose. He has published crime stories across the web at Shotgun Honey, Near to the Knuckle, Out of the Gutter, Fried Chicken and Coffee, and Manslaughter Review. He received his MFA in creative writing from the University of Texas-El Paso.
PLEASE NOTE: It is best to register at least a week before the start of a class to help our instructors prepare and ensure that a class does not get cancelled or rescheduled.
