Spend a Summer Saturday writing spontaneously to prompts and exercises in the lively company of other writers, or work on your own project in a quiet, private nook inside the ranch house or outside in any of the peaceful settings. This all-day retreat promises a set-aside time, an inspiring place, and a warm and welcoming community – something for writers of all levels of experience and all genres. Bring a friend and join us.

Materials: Just bring your notebook or laptop, a brown bag lunch, walking-shoes, sunscreen and hat. We’ll provide refreshments, writing prompts and exercises and maybe even a few surprises.

Registration required by July 10. Directions to the J & J Ranch will be provided at that time. Proceeds from this retreat will go toward the San Diego Writers, Ink Scholarship and Outreach program.

Judy Reeves 2010

Judy Reeves is a writer, teacher and writing practice provocateur whose books include A Writer’s Book of Days; Writing Alone, Writing Together; A Creative Writer’s Kit and The Writer’s Retreat Kit. Her work has also appeared in the San Diego Reader, The Frozen Moment, A Year in Ink, Vols I and 5 and other anthologies. Two plays, written with a women’s writing ensemble, were produced in the Fritz Blitz. In addition to leading private writing workshops and retreats, Judy teaches at UCSD Extension and speaks at writing conferences internationally. A tenth anniversary Revised Edition of A Writer’s Book of Days was named Best Nonfiction in the 2010 San Diego Book Awards.Her latest book is Wild Women, Wild Voices. Her website is She blogs at
