2017-10/15 Temperamental Poetry: A Making & Mending Workshop with Amie Whittmore

Date: Sunday, October 15, 2017 Time: 2:30pm to 5:30pm Number of sessions: One Day Class Members: $45 Nonmembers: $54 Location: San Diego Writers, Ink, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, 2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, 2nd Floor Above Women's Museum, San Diego, CA 92106

The poet Gregory Orr suggests poetry is composed of four temperaments: story, structure, music, and imagination. We will read and discuss contemporary poems to better understand how these temperaments work individually and in concert with each other. Then, using these temperaments as templates, participants will “make” poems emphasizing these qualities. Participants will also bring in finished drafts to “mend” by applying these concepts through individual analysis and workshop.
