2017-08/31 Living Circles: Personal Mandala Journaling with Mary Lee Moser

Date: Thursday, August 31, 2017 Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm Number of sessions: One Day Class Members: $45 Nonmembers: $54 Location: San Diego Writers, Ink, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, 2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, 2nd Floor Above Women's Museum, San Diego, CA 92106

“Growth is a spiral process, doubling back on itself, reassessing and regrouping.” Julia Margaret Cameron, British photographer

Would you like to learn to incorporate the symbolism of the spiral and the mandala into your journal writing? In this class, which is appropriate for anyone with any level of journaling experience, the emphasis will be on opening up new paths of creativity.

Integrating past, present, and future into a cohesive whole will be explored through guided writing and simple art experiences. The creation of personal collage mandalas will lead to fresh possibilities for accessing imagination and awareness. In the words of Buddhist nun, Pema Chodron, “Each person’s life is like a mandala—vast and limitless. We stand in the center of our own circle, and everything we see, hear and think forms the mandala of our life.”

A comfortable, calm environment will be provided, beginning with a guided meditation. We’ll honor our imagination and inner resources while enjoying verbal and visual self-expression in a small group of supportive people— sharing will be encouraged but is always optional. All art supplies are provided.

Please bring to class:

1) A question about your future in general, or about a specific life goal

2) A small (3” X 3” or smaller) photo of yourself, or an image that represents a part of you

3) A notebook or journal, a pen you love to use, and (if possible) a few magazines for collage

Many of us have allergies and sensitivities, so it’s requested that everyone refrain from wearing scented products to this class.
