Join us for our 13th Annual Prose and Poetry in the Park!

Pack up your picnic blankets and chairs and join San Diego’s writing community for our thirteenth(!) annual celebration of summer and writing. Rummage through your good stuff and choose some poems, flash fiction, or excerpts from longer prose pieces for an Open Mic reading. Good writing, friendly writers, San Diego summer day … what could be better?

Please limit your piece to 3 minutes maximum. Thank you!

You’ll find us at the Poetry Bench in Balboa Park–the northeast corner of Balboa Drive & Quince St. under a towering grove of  magnolia trees.


This year’s host is Amy Locklin, San Diego Writers, Ink’s new Executive Director. Come out and meet Amy and hear some great wordsmiths!

Amy Locklin has worked in community and college education for nearly two decades. She recently edited the anthology of sci-fi and fantasy short fiction Altered States and has begun to edit a second anthology, Law and Disorder. Her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction have appeared in journals including Clementine Magazine, Quarter After Eight, Maize, and Main Street Rag, as well as the anthologies And Know This Place: Poetry of Indiana and Dots on a Map: Stories from Small Town America. Her work has won honors in the Robert J. DeMott short prose contest, the Academy of American Poets Prize, the Associated Writing Program’s Intro Journal Project, and the Lois Davidson Ellis Literary Award. A recipient of Indiana Arts Commission grants, she earned her MFA at Indiana University where she directed the IU Writers’ Conference for four years. In addition, Amy writes and performs music. Her poetry chapbook The Secondary Burial is available from Finishing Line Press.
