03/23 Conflict, Tension, and “Black Moments” with Lisa Kessler

Date: Saturday, March 23, 2013 Time: 11AM to 2PM Number of sessions: 1 -- One day class! Members: $45 Nonmembers: $54 Location: Ink Spot, 710 13th Street, Studio 210, San Diego, CA 92101

Master conflict in your stories with this one day workshop!

In this one-day workshop, we will study “black moments” in well-known fiction and films, and then study your story ideas to craft a black moment that has your readers turning pages and holding their breath, hoping the heroes will earn that happily ever after.

This will be a hands-on class with lively discussion and feedback on your work in progress or maybe a finished work that needs more impact at the end. Beginners and those without work are welcome, however! For all writers at all stages, we will raise the stakes and make the black moment in your writing something your readers will remember long after they finish your tale.

Lisa Kessler has published multiple short stories in print anthologies and magazines.  Her vampire short story, Immortal Beloved, was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and has been reprinted in the Dead Souls anthology by Morrigan Books.  After meeting Ray Bradbury she took up his challenge to write 52 Short Stories in 52 Weeks and one of the stories grew into her novel, Moonlight, became a finalist in the Kensington/RT Writing with the Stars contest.

Her debut novel, Night Walker, won a San Diego Book Award for Best Fantasy-SciFi-Horror and the Hearts Through History for Best Paranormal and Best First Book.
