Drusilla Campbell, winner of the Theodor S. Geisel Award at the 17th Annual San Diego Book and Writing Awards (for her novel The Good Sister), will provide thoughtful, insightful information and even a read & critique that will teach you how to blend inspiration with technique in order to polish an irresistible Chapter One.

In this 2 week class we’ll pay attention to concept, hooking the reader, setting the story question and goal, characterization, detail, narrative voice and language.

1. Week one will be lecture and discussion of what makes a good first chapter.

2. Week two I will go over each submission orally with the whole class. Everyone who wishes to have their first chapter evaluated by Dru may do so, but it is not required! Participants will be emailed prior to the class with submission details.
