Enrique Limon teaches Adventures in First-Person Writing

Date: Saturday, September 24, 2011 Time: 10am to 1pm Number of sessions: 1-ONE DAY CLASS! Members: $55 Nonmembers: $64 Location: The Inkspot, 710 13th St, Ste 210, San Diego, CA 92101

Traditionally, one of the first rules of journalism is: “report the story, don’t become part of it.” For local author Enrique Limón that’s been a hard rule to follow. From transgendered beauty pageants to the seediest of dive bars, Limón exposes San Diego’s nightlife underbelly in his wildly-popular, often comedic San Diego CityBeat column “The Enrique Experience.”

In this one-day course, Enrique will recount some of his most interesting tales; share the secrets for a successful personality driven piece–including instructing participants on how to create a pitch for a personality-driven column, and point out the pitfalls that often make first-person writing fall flat.

Attendees are encouraged to bring in a 350 word count immersion journalism piece for critique.

About Enrique Limón: Often pushing the boundaries of religion, race, sex and gender identity, Limón is both an editor’s dream and his worst nightmare. Dubbed “Gatsby with a dose of Dadaism” by modernluxury.com, he has been recognized by the San Diego Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists, and is a Fellow at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.
