Closing Reception–Fool 4 U: Paintings by Dina Bedenko
The risks of infatuation are never considered in that first touch between a cowboy and a stripper. It starts with a glance, an alluring twirl, a seductive stance. Before you know it, you have lost control of your senses. In this series of paintings, Dina Bedenko explores the complex interaction between a male and female when they allow primal attraction to be the driving force in their relationship.
Bedenko blends her love for film posters, fashion and pop culture on the canvas, producing work that is colorful, graphic and cheeky. Stereotypical sex symbols like the bull fighter or the mermaid are juxtaposed to create a narrative about fantasy and passion. Using repetitive feminine and masculine symbols, Bedenko creates sexual tension that continues from canvas to canvas like pages in a story.
In Fool 4U the viewer is pulled into the melodrama of falling for the bad boy or the femme fatale, including all its emotional confusion, pain and agony. Climb aboard Bedenko’s roller coaster of desire.
