This position is for a gregarious, motivated volunteer who enjoys the thrill of the chase. We’re looking for someone to solicit donations of food, beverages, and writerly goods for our events and programs. The coordinator will manage a small team of assistants who will divide and conquer.

Hours per week: 1-3, depending on event schedule

Days/Times: Varies; involves writing, phoning, and pounding the pavement

Length of Agreement: Preferably indefinitely, but minimum one year

Description:

• Consult with volunteer coordinator and/or event chair regarding needs for upcoming events
• Procure needed items (SDWI letterhead, tax benefit info, and training provided)
• Build and maintain list of individuals, corporations, and other donors
• Work with assistants to avoid redundancy, spread the joy of solicitation, and thank donors
• Arrange for pick-up and delivery of donated items

Requirements:

• Individuals should be motivated, outgoing, and have no qualms about asking for free stuff
• As a representative of San Diego Writers, this person must exhibit enthusiasm, patience, and professionalism
• Creativity, persistence, and perseverance a huge plus – you never know where the next donors might be, or what they might have to offer

Event chair and/or volunteer coordinator
