SDW, Ink Volunteer Position
Media Relations Manager
All the news that fit to print, broadcast, post, or blog — and it’s all good news. This position is both a journalistic and creative one, writing and placing information and features about what’s going on at San Diego Writers, Ink and The Ink Spot with San Diego media.
Hours per Week: 1-3, depending on event schedule
Days/Times: Any time, any day, anywhere (this job is entirely remote)
Length of Agreement: Preferably indefinitely, but minimum one year
Description:
- Create and mail (email, mostly) media releases to local media
- Maintain current media contact list
- Develop relationships with media and represent SDWI to media
- Create feature releases and place with targeted media
- Find innovative ways to bring media attention to SDWI
- Develop and place public service announcements
Requirements:
- Some journalism and/or PR experience, especially writing and producing media releases
- Extremely organized, great attention to detail
- Able to work within timely, deadline-oriented structure
- Creative writer with good editing skills
Reporting To:
Executive Director and/or member of Programming Committee
Salary and Benefits:
No monetary compensation whatsoever. Benefits include gaining experience in the media relations/PR field with plentiful and unique opportunities for creative writing and development of media stories. You’ll never run out of topics to write about, plus you’ll have the pleasure of introducing people to San Diego’s writing community and to SDW, Ink and keeping them updated on literary events.
