Exciting new class and instructor! Bookmaking: Creating handmade books with writing prompts led by Rob Williams

In this fun hands-on class, you will learn basic bookmaking skills and create your own unique books with the opportunity to try at least 4 different styles. We will discuss various types of handmade books and focus creating folios, signatures, and using various binding techniques and  types of attachment methods. Bring your handmade papers, marbled or paste papers, collage papers or extra artwork or prints to use in your books. All skill levels are welcome and no experience is necessary. Writing prompts and exercises will also be provided to spur creativity and fill the pages of your unique book!

Currently Kevin Greeland is an art instructor and studio coordinator for the San Diego Art Department in North Park. Before moving to California he was the owner of Parkland Art Boutique & Gallery, located in Sarasota, Florida. Kevin holds a Masters Degree in Fine Art and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Art Education. Kevin has taught art at the Memphis College of Art, (Memphis, TN) and at Vanderbilt University-Sarratt Art Studios (Nashville, TN) where he was also the Assistant Director of the Sarratt Studio Arts Program. He has taught art in public schools in Pennsylvania and Tennessee for a number of years as well as in various museum settings, such as the Cheekwood Art Museum & Botanical Gardens and the Reading Public Art Museum. In 2002 he was recognized as an outstanding art educator with a Teacher of the Year Award from Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Public Schools. He is the recipient of a Hohenberg European Travel Fellowship and has also studied printmaking and sculpture at Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, Netherlands.  As a practicing artist with over 25 exhibitions, Mr. Greeland has received numerous awards; his artwork includes sculpture, installations, painting, printmaking, photography and handmade books. Rob Williams teaches English and creative writing in San Diego, CA. He received his BA in English from Arizona State University and his MFA in Fiction from Columbia University. He is the co-editor of the Lambda Award Nominated anthology From Boys to Men: Gay Men Write About Growing Up. His essays and fiction have also appeared in San Diego CityBeat Magazine, Maisonneuve, Pindeldyboz, Versal, 400 Words, among others, and various anthologies including Fool For Love, Fresh Men: New Voices in Gay Fiction, 6 Sentences,  I Do/I Don’t: Queers on Marriage, and Not Quite What I Was Planning:Six Word Memoirs.
