| | Writing Fantasy and Sci-Fi: Creating That Alternate Reality
- Thursdays, August 12 to September 9 (5 sessions)
- 5-7 pm** Note this is an earlier class
- The Ink Spot
What makes reading a good fantasy or science fiction novel or story such a great experience? Of course, the best have twisty plots and 3D characters, but the best of the best have something else: a fully realized and convincing world. World building is the most essential and challenging difference between straight fiction and speculative fiction. Pick up a copy of THE CITY & THE CITY and you'll know what I mean. THE PASSAGE is another superior example. This early evening class will cover the basics of character and plot but the emphasis will be on world building, the specific techniques that will enable you to create an alternate reality that is both convincing and enthralling to your reader.
Drusilla Campbell is the author of more than fifteen novels including the best selling BLOOD ORANGEand BONE LAKE. Her newest novel, THE GOOD SISTER, will be available in October. During the Jurassic period, her science fiction short story, "Piper, What Song?" was chosen one of the year's best and her longest term literary goal is a Hugo Award of her very own.
An in-demand teacher and lecturer, Drusilla writes novels that “surprise and capture” her audience. Don't miss this brand new class!
