SDW, Ink's 4th Annual Valentine Contest


Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline December 31, 2007

Theme: Love & Friendship & General Goodwill
Feel free to stretch beyond the traditional

Submission Criteria:

Poetry: Submit one to three theme-related poems per entry, single-spaced on plain paper in generic font. Maximum 35 lines per poem. $10 entry fee covers one-three poems.

Fiction: Submit one theme-related story per entry, double-spaced on plain paper in generic font. Maximum 500 words. $10 entry fee covers one entry.

All Entries: Submit unpublished work. Multiple entries encouraged. DO NOT place your name on the actual entries. Please send four copies of each entry and a cover letter with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and title of each piece. All entries must be postmarked by December 31,2007. Manuscripts will be recycled. Include a SASE for list of winners and mail to:

Prizes: First Place: $100. Surprise awards for Second and Third.
Awards Ceremony: Friday, February 15, 2008, 7 pm at the Ink Spot. Winning authors will be invited to read their prize-winning work.

Final Judges

Poetry—Roger Aplon has published six books of poetry including Stiletto, By Dawn’s Early Light at 120 MPH, It’s Mother’s Day, Barcelona Diary, and, most recently, The Man With His Back to the Room. Intimacies, a book of prose poems and short stories, was published in last September. He founded Choice Magazine, with Aaron Siskind and John Logan. A former Chicagoan, San Franciscan and San Diegan, Roger currently lives and writes mostly in Barcelona, Spain. His website is www.rogeraplon.com

FictionSara Lewis is the author of five novels including The Best of Good, The Second Draft of My Life and The Answer is Yes, and a book of short stories published by Harcourt and Simon & Schuster. Her short fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Redbook, Mademoiselle, Good Housekeeping, and other national publications. Her nonfiction has appeared in Ladies’ Home Journal, McCall’s and others.
