| | Editing Your Work: Vision and Revision
Revision is an integral part of the writing process, one whose importance is often underestimated. Meaning literally to "see again," it can be intimidating for many writers. This course explores step-by-step techniques for assessing and reconsidering your narrative and for refining your prose from a fresh, critical perspective. We will examine major and minor revisions—from an overview of the entire narrative, to a closer look at scenes, paragraphs, and sentences. With practical tips on how to sharpen your focus, cut extraneous material, and smooth rough patches, this workshop will break down the sometimes overwhelming task of revision into manageable stages.
Leslie will draw from her experiences as a writer, editor, instructor, and publishing professional to provide effective, down-to-earth advice. The first part of the workshop will be a lecture, followed by general discussion and the opportunity to address participants’ individual concerns.
