Through a special arrangement and the generosity of master teacher Bonnie ZoBell, we're able to offer this one-time-only workshop for a special rate. . . . although in the end the writer is on a solitary journey, the writer is aided in ripping down the road by partnering up with trusted readers.
--Sheila Bender, Christi Killien, Writing in a Convertible with the Top Down
Read and critique is a way — possibly the only way— for writers to hear how their writing sounds to others. Because we can never hear our story for the first time, workshopping our manuscripts is how we regain the perspective we have lost over the many drafts and edits and revises. This special one-time-only read and critique workshop offers participants the opportunity to read up to five pages of their fiction and receive feedback from workshop leader Bonnie ZoBell in a safe, friendly and encouraging environment.
Bring two copies of a work-in-progress, including a complete short story or flash fiction, or excerpts or scenes from a longer story or novel. Manuscripts should be 12 pt. font, double-spaced with wide margins on plain white paper.
Workshop size is limited; early registration is recommended.
Bonnie ZoBell received an NEA for her fiction and a PEN Syndicated Fiction Award for a story that was later read on NPR. Recently included on Wigleaf's 2009 Top 50 list for very short fiction, she also won the Capricorn Novel Award and an Honorable Mention for the James Jones Novel Contest. Her work has been included in or forthcoming in Night Train, American Fiction, The Bellingham Review, The Greensboro Review, Art & Understanding: America's AIDS Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, elimae, Rumble and Word Riot. She's held residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, VCCA, and other colonies. She attended Palomar Community College, received a BS from San Diego State University with Honors, and an MFA from Columbia University on fellowship. At San Diego Mesa College, she’s the Creative Writing Coordinator. Though she's tried to move away a few times, she always winds up back to San Diego, where she lives with her husband, two dogs, and two cats.
