Pitching Manuscripts and Book Proposals to Agents & Editors
Designed for novelists and nonfiction writers, this half-day seminar will teach you how to research literary agencies and small presses, and how prepare your work for agents and editors. You’ll learn how (and when) to find an agent, as well as how to prepare manuscripts and proposals — including how to write professional query letters, synopses, and author bios. We will also discuss editing and revision strategies and how to avoid the most common submission mistakes.
Midge Raymond’s short-story collection, Forgetting English, will be published in the fall of 2008 and includes stories originally published in Bellevue Literary Review, Ontario Review, Indiana Review, and other publications. She has worked for Penguin, Bantam Doubleday Dell, Houghton Mifflin, and St. Martin’s Press, and is a fiction editor for the literary magazine Green Hills Literary Lantern. She is co-founder of San Diego’s Metropolitan Writing Works (www.metrowriting.com) and serves on the board of San Diego Writers, Ink.
