Writing the Travel Story
The best travel writing transports readers and inspires wanderlust. Whether you’re interested in writing travel essays, newspaper stories or magazine pieces, you’ll learn the basics in this three-hour course. Topics include the art of vivid description, story structure, avoiding cliches and the nuances of the marketplace. An emphasis will be placed on writing the travel essay.  Jim Benning is the co-founder and co-editor of the online travel magazine World Hum, often cited as the web’s best literary travel site. His travel stories have appeared in many magazines, newspapers and books, including National Geographic Adventure, The Washington Post and Travelers’ Tales “Best Travel Writing 2007.” He has taught travel writing at UCSD Extension and UCLA Extension.
