Join Ron in this fun, interactive workshop where participants will learn how to prepare for a poetry reading.

You will learn:

  • How to choose appropriate poems
  • Who is the real audience
  • How long should a poetry reading be
  • How to develop a voice
  • How to organize your poems
  • How to hold your poems and use a lectern
  • Microphone Tips
  • How to get off the page
  • Eye contact, the jitters and breathing

 

This workshop is for any poet, new or experienced, who wants to give a poetry reading or improve their poetry reading performance. Bring two copies of ten poems you think are right for a reading, one page length each, please. Participants will work on the presentations of two-to-three poems.

 

Ron Salisbury is a professional public speaker and a veteran of decades of poetry readings. He has studied with many of America’s top writers, has a degree in poetry from Antioch University, and continues to participate in the San Diego spoken word community.
