Creating Great Characters

This one day workshop will focus on how to create compelling and authentic characters who will ultimately propel your story or novel forward. We will discuss a variety of techniques for both developing your character in your own mind and revealing them to your reader on the page.

We will explore you characters through a number of exercises that will also serve as tools you may use for character development in the future. We look at our characters’ pasts, futures, motivations, frustrations, and desires and the complicity of character with plot.

“…the author knows how to make her characters’ suffering wrench readers’ hearts.
