Teams help us blaze brighter: Make a Blazing Laptops Team now!

Greetings!

Helen Keller famously said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” As writers, we know that there actually IS a lot we can do alone in our writer’s room, letting our imaginations soar, feeling that out-of-body experience when the pen or keyboard seems to be moving on its own—those rare occasions when we are as one with the muse.

And, if you have ever been in a room full of writers, you know that the second part of Helen’s message is true, as well. We can do so much together. That is the foundation of San Diego Writers, Ink. Our understanding of what it is to be a writer—that solitary pursuit; and of the powerful magic that is produced when writers gather in community.

This year will mark our 10th Annual Blazing Laptops Write-a-thon fundraising drive. On May 21st, both rooms at the Ink Spot will fill with writers ready to produce some magic. We hope you will consider being a part of this very special day—both as an individual participant, and as a member of a writing team.

Teams are already forming on the Blazing Laptops website (sandiegowriters.dojiggy.com). Check them out—perhaps you know some of the team members and want to join in. Or, why not start your own team? Some possibilities:

  • Ask 3, 7, 10 writers you know to form a team and sign up.
  • In a writing group? At your next meeting, suggest that you form a Blazing Laptops team.
  • Have a favorite SDWI instructor? See if he or she would be interested in sponsoring a team of current and former students.
  • Do you belong to a book club? Why not see if your book club would like to form a team.
  • Are you a member of another writing organization? (Sisters in Crime, Romance Writers of America, African American Artists and Writers, (Not) Dead (Yet) Poet’s Society, Pen to Paper, South Bay Scribes, etc.) Form a team!
  • Place a “Call For Team Members” to your friends on Facebook and other social media channels.
  • Form a team based on mutual interests—The Jane Austins; the Oscar Wildes; The Haiku Harlots; Poets for Peace; Flash Fiction Fanatics. You get the idea.

All of the instructions for starting or joining a team are on the Blazing Laptops website. We would love to see LOTS of teams participating this year. Oh, and there are special prizes for teams that raise the most money and teams with the largest number of participants. Have fun, and we look forward to seeing you on May 21st!

Best,
